Book Review

This was a good story—very creative! I was locked in from the jump. I didn’t know what to expect because I saw two different book covers. I like Maggie’s whole attitude. One of her teachers didn’t know how to talk to her, and she checked him—real quick. She wasn’t about to run through them woods, then these dudes started chasing her. I guess that was P.E. lol!
There was an R. Kelly-type dude at the school. He was a teacher or something, hanging round all them young women. He was the big D guy, straight threatening the safety of her “lady parts” (in Tiffany Haddish voice).
This book 1 is about Black folks navigating relations and trying to move through this dark underworld university where the students and staff have magical powers. There’s a cat named Quan, who didn’t disappoint. Also, some girls got kidnapped and killed. Then there’s the First Family that runs the whole joint. You got different personalities between the faculty, students, and cliques, trying to figure it all out. There’s Black people who don’t even like other Black people at this school. It’s got some of everybody. It’s definitely giving modern Black folk vibes. Not everybody can even see the school. It’s dark academia with vampires and everything.
I can’t wait to read the next book!😊
